Fishing in the Weipa area we have an abundence of choices if you want to wet a line with ten large river systems within 150 Ks of the township. There are fresh and saltwater barra fisheries not two hours drive from your front door, monster trevally, queenfish, Spanish mackeral and cobia of the highest quality being caught in the shipping channel right on our door step. Bottom feeders like fingermark, coral trout, nannygai, and red emperor a common occurence in your ice box.
One more mighty fine example of the fishery that abounds in our area is the discovery of our local marlin and sailfish fishery being explored by anglers, Ben Bright (NOTSO), Allan Pilliskirk (FISH) well known for their expertise. Of all the choices you have one of the most exciting is stalking a large manta ray and seeing what you can catch on fly, sometimes a cobia or barra other times it could be a queenfish or trevally, I once hooked a 65 cm fingermark, it really keeps you on your toes. Fishing Weipa and the Cape can be the time of your life, it's also a very dangerous place with all the crocs', wild boar and sharks but that will be your adventure...
