All stores are focussed on helping anglers get the most enjoyment out of their fishing and watersports. The enthusiastic staff are passionate about their recreational fishing and outdoor activities. The metropolitan Bluewater Tackle World stores are located in Scarborough, Mindarie, Morley and Melville. The Bluewater Tackle World store in the tropical North West is located at Exmouth, near the Ningaloo Reef.
Exmouth is increasingly becoming known as the gamefishing capital of Western Australia. It has also become a mecca for fly fishing anglers. Common species such as bream, flathead, norwest snapper, queenfish, trevally, dart, cod and northern salmon can also be caught regularly from the shore. Although the town is only small with a population of around 2000 people, the fishing is big, with over forty Gamefish species on offer including six species of billfish. Not to mention succulent table fish such as coral trout, red emperor and Yellowfin tuna to name a few.
Owners Matt and Jeni Gates have written for various fishing magazines and appeared on many television programs for fishing. Matt and Jeni are involved in many community programs to help encourage people to learn about the benefits of recreational fishing. Matt Gates is highly known for his quality custom rod building. If you’re after a heavy duty spin rod to tackle the giant trevally, or personalised trolling rod for marlin, or perhaps need a fine barramundi outfit to suit the northern region, Matt can create you one of his masterpieces.

There are five Bluewater Tackle World Stores in Western Australia, four of which are in the Perth metropolitan area. They are located in Scarborough, Mindarie, Morley and Melville. The Bluewater Tackle World store in the north is located at Exmouth, near the Ningaloo Reef.
All stores’ staff are focused on helping anglers get the most enjoyment out of their fishing and watersports. Our enthusiastic staff are passionate about their recreational fishing and outdoor activities.
Bluewater has a history that dates back to 1932, and has always been West Australian owned. Proprietor Hal Harvey’s grandfather started the first store, in the same building as Scarborough still operates out of. Ours is the longest-established tackle business in mainland Australia, and is probably the oldest tackle business in the world that has always been in the same family.
Along the way Bluewater Tackle World grew into being Australia’s major specialist tackle outlets. We distribute many leading edge products such as Duel Reels from Italy, Tiburon products from USA, Calstar rods and blanks, Lamiglas rods and blanks, Stuart rod building products, Black Jack outriggers, poppers and stick baits, GT Max rod belts and handle knobs, DUO from Japan, Fishworks products, Tibor fly reels from USA, PlayAction rod belts and Stripteaser teasers.
Bluewater Tackle World are the West Australian distributors for Sage rods, reels and fly lines, and carry many other specialist products such as Miya Epoch, Jigging Master, Pro Gear, Daiwa Saltiga, G. Loomis, Maui Jim, Pelaj, Rob Allen, Van Staal, Accurate, Owner, YGK, Avet, Black Bart and Pakula. We are the source for many hard-to-get tackle items – definitely not your average tackle stores!
We’d love you to visit any of our stores. Scarborough is the oldest. Morley is the closest to Perth Airport. Melville is the biggest. Mindarie is the newest. Exmouth has the best fishing (and the best weather, outside of cyclone season)

TACKLE WORLD TIP
Barramundi
Wet season Oct to Feb.
Bait: live mullet, boney herring, cherabin.
Lures: Barra Classics, Nils Masters, Rapala, Bolt.
Soft Plastics: Squidgy, Gulp
Medium sized barramundi to 15-20lb can be had all year round in our tidal estuaries. The Fitzroy river can hold some big fish and has tidal and billabong fishing. Prime time however is still during the summer months. Another tip to remember is to fish on a tide change as the fish feed more actively.
Mangrove Jack
All year round
Bait: boney herring.
Lures: Nils Masters & Strada.
Soft Plastics: Squidgy, Gulp
If you cast lures or troll, buy yourself a lure retriever other wise trolling for mangrove Jacks can get very expensive. Rocky ledges are great places to fish for these great fish.
Fingermark
All year round
Bait: live mullet & boney herring.
Lures: Nils Masters & Halco.
Soft Plastics: Squidgy, Gulp
Trolling deep diving lures around the mouths of creeks with rock ledges are ideal spots. The most common catching technique is livebaiting, but these fish will take quality dead baits as well.
There are three main techniques for sailfish and these really depend on where you're fishing for them. If you're fishing proven grounds, trolling baits is a great way to go. Sailfish love skipping baits but some days they grow shy, as do all fish, and a well-rigged swimming bait may be the only thing which will work. An increasingly popular way to fish for sails, especially in waters frequented by other non-target critters such as mackerel and tuna, is to run a spread of teasers with no baits in the water. When the sailfish turn up to go crazy over your teasers, drop a bait back to them and bingo - nine times out of ten you're connected to a sail
Mackerel
May to Oct
Lures: Halco, Rapala & Yo Zuri.
Some of the best techniques for catching Spanish mackerel are Trolling Lures and Baits and Jigging chrome lures.
Tuna
May to Oct
Deep diving, hard body lures with a wide bib Tuna feather lures, Resin head skirted lures, Steel, jet head skirted lures, Yo-Zuri Surface Bull GT , Hawaiian Jet Heads, Artificial feathers and ballyhoos
Jet head lures are a favorite because they create a trail of bubbles by forcing water through the small tunnels located at the front of the lure.

TACKLE WORLD TIP
Spanish Mackerel
Hardbody diving lures such as Strada HD Tracka 160 lures, Bolt Mystique deep diving lures and Halco's 190 Lazer Pro lures.
Troll a spread of 2-5 hardbody lures with a mixture of deep and shallower running options at a speed of 5-9knots around reef edges, shoals and bait aggregations. Shallow running lures are best at dawn and dusk, while deep lures are better during the day.
Mangrove jack
Mulie, hardy head or small shads
Mainly found in the warmer months. Ask us which areas work best at what time of year.
Giant Trevally
Large poppers with barbless hooks.
We get these 12 months of the year from the shore and boats. Call in to ask us what is happening while you are here.
Whiting
Prawns and dried worms or soft plastics
Fish the high tide along the beaches in the gulf all year round. In winter they love the early moring when it is high tide.
Spangled Emperor
Whole squid and fresh local mullet from in-store for bait. A good berley trail enhances your chances. Soft plastic lures such as Squidy Fish Slick Rigs and Berkley Gulp Jerk Shads.
Utilising suitable spinning or overhead tackle, cast lightly weighted baits or soft plastic lures over shallow, broken reefy ground. To minimise lost fish due to bust offs use a tough, clear leader material such as 30-50Lb Instinct XTS Plus.
Red Emperor
Use large, hole and cut baits such as fresh local in-store mullet and squid.
Look for gently-sloping ground in waters ranging from 30-80m deep along the western side of the peninsuala and Muiron Islands.
Coral trout
Use large, hole and cut baits such as fresh in-store mullet and squid. Soft plastics work well on these species too.
Look for shallow reefy country such as that within Exmouth Gulf. Keep your bait as lightly weighted and close to the bottom as possible.
Sailfish
Skipping or swimming baits such as garfish and small skirted lures such as the Apex Predator range or the Williamsom Live Ballyhoo rigs.
Troll baits rigged on circle hooks using Dubro clips from in-store on spin gear to reduce the chance of the fish spitting the hook and increase the chances of fish survival rate of hooked fish. If using lures run a spread of 3-5 lures at speeds between 6 & 9knots. Focus on the shallow water grounds such as Exmouth gulf or west of Tantabitti boat ramp. Call in and ask us wherer they are biting.
Marlin (Black, blue and striped)
Skipping or swimming baits such as large garfish, mullet, queenfish and mackeral or skirted lures such as those made by Black Bart, Pakula and Richter lures.
Troll baits and lures around the shelf, offshore canyon areas and the ledge west of the Murion Islands. Call in to see us and ask where the water temp changes are or where the latest billfish have been caught. We get them 12months of the year here. When bait fishing for Trout be sure to try a two hook rig using a 3-way swivel. This way you can use two different baits on each rod to maximise your chance of finding what the fish are feeding on. Also don’t use too much weight on the line, a sinker the size of a pea is plenty. Most of the trout will be feeding around the fringes of the lake so you don't need to be casting out into the middle.
